I am in a quite busy season right now and I find it hard to find the time to keep up with the forum.
Anyway I little bit about our past few weeks.
With my 11 year old: He is still reading for pleasure eveyday in Spanish :-) My weakest point with him is that we do not manage to find time for a workour routine, somehow his and my weeks are very full. I have to brainstorm myself on how to handle this.
With my 7 year old She is not reading as much in Spanish as I would like to, but she has already read some little books (The Five Friends short stories series) on her own. I have to work on looking for a routine to integrate her reading aloud in Spanish everyday. She is keen on writing letters in Spanish, which she does with little help from my side. She is also keep on my read alouds to them and right now she also listens to what I am reading to her older brother.
With my 4 year old He is now attending two Spanish playgroups a week and making friends with the other Spanish speaking kids on those groups :-)
Others:
I organized with another friend a musical story time in Spanish yesterday. It was a Spanish speaking couple that live in northern Germany and do bilingual story time shows. They came to our city yesterday and we had 85 people attending the show! A few of the families (including mine) stayed after for lunch and it turned out to be a very nice day in the ml. The couple doing the show were amazed on the ml community we have, which also made me proud, because I think I am one of the people workign on creating this ml community.
Last year I had my kids "earn" money with some household tasks aroung the house in november. Then with the money they earned the bought Christmas presents for their sibblings. I read about this idea in this post from the blog Frugal Fun for Boys and Girls and posted about it in Spanish in my blog here
Somehow the idea of having my kids earn money with household tasks did not convince me, since I think this is something everyone should do as part of the family. Then I read again this post from Adam which links to an article in the New York Times where a poet tells how his mom paid him as a child to memorize poems. Then I thought that would be the way for my children to earn the money for their sibblings presents this year, memorizing poems in the ml. I proposed the idea to my children and they were all for it. So far my older one has memorized three poems and the younger ones two :-)
