I have an opportunity to re-locate to another city in the U.S. this summer due to a job change. I'm choosing our new location based on the French immersion programs for 3 year olds and up. If your city has great (or amazing) French resources, could you post the details? Ideally, I hope to keep my son in full immersion until graduation. Thanks!!!
When we lived in Houston, TX, there was an excellent school that in preschool did 50% French/English curricula (1 day French, 1 day English). In primary, mornings in French and afternoons in English. It goes up to a dual high school diploma French/USA. During our time there, there was only 1 other school that offered it : in NYC. However, if your company can pay for it, that would be very nice. In 2001, we found the school fees of 12,000 USD per year for a 3 year old to be extremely high especially when there are other incidental costs. www.awty.org.
There is a very large active French community here, eg Houston Accueil, French-American society...even the Museum of Fine Arts was a gift from the French. The bulk of the French community lives between Beltway 8 and Highway 6 (these are 2 of the 3 ring roads, or boulevards périphériques if you like, that is how hugely spaced out the city is) so you will have many French speaking babysitters around as well. Houston is enormous, and public transport is almost non-existent, so this bears keeping in mind if you do choose Houston.
Thank you both very much for replying!!! Yes, Vermont would be awesome and I've applied for a job there. I hadn't thought of Houston so really appreciate your letting me know about the resources there!
The San Francisco Bay Area has several options. There are a lot of French preschool/daycares in San Francisco, and two private immersion schools. Oakland has a free bilingual charter school and a 100% French preschool. However, rent/homes here have become quite expensive! Something else to consider.
Yes, I looked at the Bay Area and there are some great resources there for French but the rents scared me away. I lived there in 2000 and couldn't believe the rents back then! Can't imagine now. Thanks for your reply!
Najwa: My eldest sings and verbalizes his figures/cars stories in an invented language that has English sounds and Italian accent. Is it his way to disconnect from his multilingual world?

Adam Beck: Najwa, it's hard to respond to your question without knowing the full details of the situation. I suggest starting a thread at a suitable board and offering as much information about these circumstances as you can.
