Hi, I'm Eva and I am a mum of a little female monkey of 17 months. My mother tongue is Spanish, like my husband's. However, I wanted to bring her up bilingual and when I got pregnant I started to speak English with her. That's something unique and, personally, I believe is the best heritage my child will have.
Adam, I just want to thank you for how inspiring you are because on this long path, all that glitters is not gold and fears arise but you're always there, insisting on persistence to get results and I can assure they're coming.
My kid is really young but she speaks words in both languages and understands almost everything, so we're extremely happy.
I am anxious to share impressions, experiences and our personal progress with other families.
We're also a Spanglish family living in France. Hubby is Spanish and rears in Spanish and though I'm French I rear our 2 girls (7 and 4) in English.
Indeed it is a unique heritage that we pass on to our little ones. Kids often mix languages, especially at your daughter's age. Do not worry. She's working it all out and over time she'll fine tune her language use.
You are also absolutely right in saying that this all glittery kind of education is not gold. It is a rough one...but so worth it! Though I have shed tears of frustration and doubted many times in our bilingual education trials, I have never come to regret it.
If you want to share impressions, experience and personal progress with us, I suggest you open your own thread on the Track Your Progress board. It really helps you feel accountable (to yourself) about your journey.
Eva, welcome! It sounds like you and your little monkey are off to a good start on your bilingual journey together! Yes, daily persistence and long-term perseverance are what bring progress and success. So keep stepping forward, day by day, and you'll no doubt travel a long way together on this adventure over the months and years to come.
And Eva, thank you for your kind words. I'm happy to know that I can be a source of encouragement to your efforts.

Najwa: My eldest sings and verbalizes his figures/cars stories in an invented language that has English sounds and Italian accent. Is it his way to disconnect from his multilingual world?

Adam Beck: Najwa, it's hard to respond to your question without knowing the full details of the situation. I suggest starting a thread at a suitable board and offering as much information about these circumstances as you can.
