Hello!
My name is Anne.
I have a little boy for about 4 months now and want to raise him somewhat bilingually. My parents themselves have raised my brother and me bilingually with a T&P approach, as otherwise we would be monolingual Germans.
I know my parents started quite late, when my older brother started English at school. I must have been about 9 years old then. They sometimes read to us in English, my mother knows a few nursery rhymes and songs in English and we used to be subscribed to English TV stations in times before the internet. Games on our PC were only available in English and we had a few cassettes and books in English. Sometimes we held our dinner conversation in English only or we used to have an English day. My parents did not have a strict plan.
I, on the other hand, studied Russian and English at university and would very much like to have a plan. I have no plan for Russian so far, as this is by far not a language I'm able to speak yet. For English I do have a few books at hand and can switch languages easily. My husband has fun talking English as well. I have talked to him about what to do and what ideas I had considering the time and place approach, but it is still a little bit difficult to me as I don't quite know how to start. Also, I have a little bit of a sleeping problem with my boy at the moment, so mornings aren't as easy as they should be. I'm a little bit suffering from PPD... maybe I do want too much in the beginning. But I would very much like a little bit of feedback about my ideas and the beginning of our (at least) bilingual journey.
I might not post as frequent as I am with a new baby obviously, but I am looking forward to sharing ideas and experiences!
