One of my daughters goes to school. She is in senior kindergarten (Canada). She just came home with a cute koala key chain. On the key chain are 10 sight words and high frequency words (they call them popcorn words). They are laminated on little strips of paper, and put on the ring of the keychain. She is to practice these words at home for a week and then go in and exchange it for the next group of sight words. Each group of 10 words is matched with a colour of the rainbow. So the first key chain are called the Red Words and her first words to learn are red, a, and, are, I, is, it, the, to, and we. She is to practice reading these words on the keychain, find them in her stories, play games with these words and practice writing them.
I love this idea and I am going to do the same thing in French at home for all my children.
