Hello everybody,
I was doing research about bilingual education this summer as my son understands everything I am saying to him, but he answers in the majority language. At the moment his strength is his motor skills. He loves to run, jump and climb.
During a school exchange, 24 years ago, I fell in love with the French language and then a long love story (high school year in France, French studies, university exchange to Québec) started and now I am a French teacher. While pregnant it was clear to me that I want to raise my child bilingual. My husband is ok with it and supports me as much as he can. He learned French at school and in the last 3.5 years, he made a big progress by listening. I have to admit that the bilingual education is mostly my project and we make it a different priority and sometimes it is hard to understand that it is such a big priority for me. My secret aim is to get a place in a bilingual primary school.
From the beginning, I spoke French to my son and without working it was easier to go to a French playtime. To our daily rituals belong French music at breakfast, reading in the afternoon and a little bit of French TV at night. Till now I was the only French speaking person and he heard me speaking German a lot as our friends and family speak German. Until now I didn't find a bilingual kindergarten and I was a little bit too shy to build a minority language network. Thanks to the blog I try to surround him more with French speaking people and he answers more and more in the minority language.
I found so much more information as I was looking in this blog that I am really happy to be here. I would love to support the French learning process in a fun way for the whole family.
I am very happy that I found this blog and forum. Since I read it, I have learned so much. Please excuse my English skills. It‘s been a long time without practice.
