Hello, everyone... long time without passing by... although I guess it's kind of normal to most of us, you know devote our time mostly to our family, focus on the bilingual journey and after all, little by little forget about the forum, right? Still new people are constantly coming and going and you (I) kind of feel Adam is close considering you continue receiving his email updates...
Anyway, moving past this quick intro, as you can tell from the title of the topic, we are now expecting our second child. It's just an early pregnancy, so far (poppy seed size according to apps so you get an idea) and although the wise plan is to wait until the end of the 1st semester to make an official announcement, I feel like sharing it here given what this means for the bilingual journey and also to get some community support. Salomé, my daughter, just turned 3yo and we are doing pretty fine, she can communicate perfectly (well "perfect" for her age) in both English = ml and Spanish although of course Spanish is more dominant but with me it's only English and in that regard I'm pleased with the result.
So basically, I think my main inquiry here is: is there a way to make sure that just as I bond with my children in the ml they also use it to communicate between them? Can I count on my daughter to help me support the bilingual journey with the upcoming baby? How to do it? Any tips? For what I remember from my old days here in the forum, I'd love to hear from Raquel (from and living in Spain, pretty sure she has 2 kids, also a great support in the forum and if I'm guessing correctly for what I heard on Attitudeable podcast episode interviewing Adam, her family is one of those cases of success referred to in Adam's new book. I may be wrong on that, though, not sure, and also of course from Adam himself, but anyone else's experience on the subject and advice would be more than welcome and appreciated.
Last, but not least, as additional comments, I remember that with Salomé for me at first, in the clinic felt a bit weird to talk to her in English (didn't feel natural) but some days later and little by little it just started flowing, however a lot of time in that first year with her to me passed by mostly mute, it was hard for me to talk to a baby that couldn't reply yet nor really understand... I think that now on that regard I can be much more intentional with the upcoming baby and try to narrate life to him/her as is suggested... "I'm going to give you a bath", "you are hungry, I'm gonna breastfeed you" "you got a stinky diaper, let's change it", etc... I didn't do that with Salo...
So... yeah, that's pretty much it. Please let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.
