Here is our little story :
And then, I thought, come on, your first boy doesn't want to speak Polish but you can at least try to do it with your second child! So I did! I spoke Polish to him...and he was really very receptive to it! It was much easier. But at the same time I was kind of lost because I spoke French to half of the family and Polish to my youngest son. Happily, I thought about talking to my elder (when he turned 3). I told him I understand that he doesn't want to speak Polish, that's his choice but he can't force me not to speak my language. And after a few days of rebellion, he accepted it. And I spoke Polish to the kids...but still French to my husband. My kids started to understand more and more but just a few words were said in Polish.
Since the 17th of April, I'm really forbidding myself to speak French (or only to translate if they reaaaaally don't understand and it's crucial that they do or if I just don't know the word in Polish--then I learn it in the evening). And since 2 weeks now, I speak Polish to my husband when the kids are around. And he started to reintroduce Chinese (he stopped when our second son was born). So he speaks to me in Chinese (with a looot of gestures, it's sometimes very funny) and speaks mainly in French with some words in Chinese here and there.
Since those 2 weeks, the progress is incredible. My elder is understanding a looooot! It's really amazing. So he is translating when my husband doesn't understand. I don't really know in the end how precisely my youngest one understands. The 2 of them speak more and more Polish (maybe 15 words in Polish per day) which is not much but it's a lot for me as 1 year ago I was really discouraged.
I'll write here our progress regularly.
Our first child was born and my Chinese-speaking husband and I (Polish speaking) were convinced we would speak in our language.
Every day, I spoke Polish to my little boy and my husband spoke Chinese when he would change the diapers too. Even if we took some e-learning lessons and worked on our language skills, we continued to talk in French between us (the ML). So even if my first boy did say some words in Polish he also was hearing a lot of French too.
When he turned 2 years old, our second son was born. And from that day, my first son totally refused Polish. He was angry each time I spoke that language. As I was really tired and struggling with his jealousy, I though I would back up and ease my day, just taking a break from Polish and start speaking French... No more Polish...
