Wow - thank you so much everyone for the support, Undraa , Amy , Adam Beck , Marta and Carrie ! I'm so glad to have my fellow zookeepers on days like this!
Last night, my daughter was all like "I'll beat M. in the reading challenge this year!" (This is the Harry Potter speed reader. But she doesn't know yet how this year's reading challenge works. In grade 2 it consisted of reading aloud for five minutes per day in the ml, in grade 3 it was ten minutes. This year it's with an online program only available for schools, where they have a list of books (the ml head teacher says it's a long list) by age groups, and they are allowed to read one level below to one level above (so grade 3, 4 and 5 books), and when they have finished a book, there's an online quiz that evaluates their comprehension. All the information is transmitted to the teacher who can see how many books they've read and how many questions they answered correctly. That's how they get their points for the reading challenge.
However, in past years, there's been suspicion of cheating, with kids amassing points through (possibly) books they had not read themselves. We have a lot of books that are in that program and that my daughter knows well because I've read them to her. I have no idea which reading level they will be in, because my daughter hasn't received her password yet.
I told her the teacher will explain in detail how this year's reading challenge works, but that she can only use books she has read herself.
We'll see, they should get their passwords later this week.
And I'll steer her towards the Tintin books we have in the ml, great idea Carrie !
