I think we met all our goals for this past week, except the encyclopedia one, which I keep forgetting. The day I read to them ended with an orange and a grape as props to explain how the earth moves around the sun. My son was more interested in eating the grape, and soon, my daughter was too. On the other hand, my son did some tracing 2-3 days instead of just 1.
D's reading: Thanks for sharing that article, Amy !! I read it yesterday evening, so I asked my daughter what books she wanted to read this week. I suggested some Biff, Chip and Kipper, as well as any other books she wanted. She said she liked Biff, Chip and Kipper, but the books were too short. You can imagine my face when she said that. I double checked to be sure. She usually complains about the opposite. So I suggested maybe she could try reading a level 6 book today and see what she thought. She was excited to do so. We'll see what she thinks this evening when she's supposed to read more text. Either way, I'll have her choose what book she wants to read from, but I'll still tell her how many pages she needs to read.
Reading in the ML: I think my daughter reads in the ml better than in the ML because I'm more constant. But yesterday, my daughter told me that one of her friends reads very slowly, along with some other classmates, while she -my daughter- reads fast. It was good to hear that. My impression was that she would be one of the slowest, but I guess I was wrong. I took this opportunity to remind her that she doesn't only read well in Spanish, but she can also read in English, and very well!
Goals for this week (pretty much the same):
- Have my daughter read at least 6 days, hopefully 7.
- Read to them at least 5 days.
- Have my son do some tracing.
- Put the read-along books in the car and play them.
- Record my son speaking. He talks quite a bit, and I'd like him to see himself chatting like this when he's older
- Put notes in my daughter's snack bag.
Try to:
- Read a page from our kids' Encyclopedia.
- Sometimes turn on the ml radio on when they're playing in the playroom.
On Friday, I ended up going to Dideco, a store where they have lots of games, most educational ones. A lot of teachers buy material here. I don't like their webpage, though, because they give next to no information on each item they sell. I got my daughter the Mini Arco I mentioned elsewhere, an extension for our Shopping List game for my son, a card game for my daughter: El castillo del Terror, an Ant Farm and a globe that's a small, soft ball. I'm done with grapes. I've been getting different board games lately, because I think they're good for them. I plan on giving one to each this summer, as a present for their birthday. I already have a few ideas, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.
