Current Challenge in Your Bilingual Journey: I am all alone in this challenge.
I try and speak Italian to my 1 year old all the time, but I am the only one who speaks it in the family and it's exhausting. I have lived in the UK for over 20 years and English comes much more naturally to me than Italian. My husband speaks Italian at intermediate level, but with plenty of mistakes thrown in. My older children (11, 11 and 7) understand a little bit of it (about 40 per cent of what I say) but never really speak it back, and when they do, they make mistakes. I really want all my boys to speak Italian fluently and be bilingual but I failed with the first 3 and, the more I read about bilingualism, the more I realise that the odds are stacked against me. I can't even speak to my husband in Italian all the time, because he would not understand everything I say. I also hate speaking Italian! I have no emotional connection to the language or the country anymore and, when I say "I love you" to my babies I feel it, but when I say it in Italian, I feel nothing. In fact, I don't enjoy it. But it would be such a shame for them not to be able to be bilingual when it's a gift I can give them. It's also very sad to see my family not being able to understand them...
Something Funny or Interesting About You: I am a singer and my husband is a trumpet player. Together we run a modern rock & soul choir of over 300 members.

Joanna: sorry Mayken...this is sad but funny as I'm sure many skype Grandparents have the same woes !(mine..) For us this weekend: potty training has led to great quality time reading and chatting, and some pretty hilarious ml questions Sept 26, 2017 6:20:44 GMT 9
Adam Beck: Mayken and Joanna, I can relate! My mother (Grandma) can't seem to get the sound on her computer working so when we Skype, we also have to use the telephone! :P Sept 26, 2017 6:36:03 GMT 9

Marisa: My daughter won't say number one in Spanish or English, but in German! She loves recognizing the number and saying it out loud... it sounds more like the word 'ice' in English, though, but it's 'eins.' Number 9, however, is 'nueve'. So funny! Oct 11, 2017 10:33:45 GMT 9
Wojtek: I've just received Evan's Moore skill sharpeners for my girl on pre-k level. I have to say it is so cool, my daughter loves it. She can cut, glue, color (www.evan-moor.com/p/19783/evan-moor-skill-sharpeners-trio-prek) Oct 11, 2017 18:30:27 GMT 9 *

Marisa: Adam, another bilingual monkey is about to be born near me (one of my colleagues is giving birth tomorrow), so I also got her and her husband a copy of your book... this world needs more bilingual kids! :) Oct 18, 2017 0:06:43 GMT 9
Adam Beck: Many thanks, Marisa! In my humble opinion, more bilingual kids = more empathy in the world = a more peaceful planet. :) Oct 18, 2017 7:33:04 GMT 9
