Country (residing now): USA
Country (originally from): Puerto Rico
Children, Ages: 16 Months
Majority Language: English
Minority Language(s): Spanish
Current Challenge in Your Bilingual Journey: Dad and Dad's family only speaks English (majority language). I have decent support in Spanish for my daughter with her Spanish speaking nanny but I worry about the future. Also, I need to work on my consistency with Spanish. I sometime switch to English in front of others (including dad) in an effort to be inclusive but I know this is not good.
Something Funny or Interesting About You: My English and Spanish phonetic 'cables' are getting crossed these days in very interesting ways...
Learning English was not easy for me. When I was in 6th grade, I had to do summer school for English because my grades were not good enough to pass the grade. Back then, I would have never thought I at some point I would be living the rest of my life in English.
Favorite Quote: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”

Marisa: My daughter won't say number one in Spanish or English, but in German! She loves recognizing the number and saying it out loud... it sounds more like the word 'ice' in English, though, but it's 'eins.' Number 9, however, is 'nueve'. So funny! Oct 11, 2017 10:33:45 GMT 9
Wojtek: I've just received Evan's Moore skill sharpeners for my girl on pre-k level. I have to say it is so cool, my daughter loves it. She can cut, glue, color (www.evan-moor.com/p/19783/evan-moor-skill-sharpeners-trio-prek) Oct 11, 2017 18:30:27 GMT 9 *

Marisa: Adam, another bilingual monkey is about to be born near me (one of my colleagues is giving birth tomorrow), so I also got her and her husband a copy of your book... this world needs more bilingual kids! :) Oct 18, 2017 0:06:43 GMT 9
Adam Beck: Many thanks, Marisa! In my humble opinion, more bilingual kids = more empathy in the world = a more peaceful planet. :) Oct 18, 2017 7:33:04 GMT 9
