My oldest turned 12! Time really flies. We would have normally celebrated his birthday in Madrid with my family, since there are now school vacations where we live, but unfortunately due to the current situation we have stayed home. He did skype with the ml family though.
Since we were on school vacation this week, I did not manage to follow our usual routines. Specially with the read alouds where I am usually good at. But we did family movie night in the ml almost every night of the week. And we have played a lot of board games. Both my older ones have kept reading daily in the ml.
For those of you with Spanish as ml, the prime service of amazon.es offers a lot of films and series in Spanish, also a lot of them originally from Spain. I have also just discovered Amazon Spain started Audible, which means lots of audio books in Spanish that I can also reach through Audible in Germany. My two younger ones are very keen on audiobooks, so I am very happy that the number of audiobooks available in Spanish is increasing.
I have decided I will change the captive reading stuff for my oldest every other day, since he reads the new things fast and often asks me when will I post something new. I usually look for articles about something that interests him. For example for this week I have just printed a couple articles about gorillas and a biography of Dian Fossey.
We still have one more week of school vacation. I will see that we get back on track on the read alouds but I will also relax until school starts again.
Happy birthday to your growing son, Marta! Next year you'll have your first teenager! (Watch out! )
It's a shame you couldn't go to Spain, but it sounds like you're having a fun and productive vacation nevertheless. Full speed ahead with your captive reading!
Cheers to the whole family, from Japan to Germany!

Amy: Was stunned to hear eldest had an anglophone (ml) accent when she began to read in the ML this afternoon!! Didn't last more than a paragraph until her brain switched language, but chuffed mum here!!

Mayken: My daughter found the secret stash of ml books I'd bought at the closure sale of the ml book store two months ago and hidden away for later. Guess it's a good time for new books now, right?

Caro C.: My baby (16mo) perfectly knows what "hi5" means and readily shows her hand even when we are not showing our hand first. It feels like the first minor blossom of the bilingual seed.
