I am the mother of a two-year-old girl and I've been the main provider of her minority language, which is English, ever since she was born. Even though my mother tongue is actually German I don't think I've ever said a word of German to her in the past two years. Reason being? I am a dual citizen and so is my daughter, USA/Austria. And having the ability to speak German and English is something I want to pass on to her. It hasn't been easy and I am not sure if my dream of her being a true bilingual is ever going to come true but I am going to try my hardest!
Petra, welcome! I admire your determination and it sounds to me like you and your daughter are off to a great start on your bilingual journey together. I expect that this year will bring a lot of happy developments in her progress and we look forward to hearing about them!
Keep up your persistent efforts, day by day! Your perseverance will surely pay off over time!

Wojtek: Yesterday my daughter used a Polish word in an English sentence. From time to time she does it (don't know if I should be happy about that), but anyway what was amusing about that, she said it with an English accent!

Wojtek: I feel the English accent in our monolingual family has seemed to be something unreachable but in that mixed sentence, I heard the difference. It surprised me slightly.

Mayken: Adam Beck, Amy, she got a lot of ml exposure but there's only so many times I can watch a Bibi & Tina DVD. Glad she's back at school today.

Mayken: My daughter's school had the annual lantern pageant yesterday. It always moves me to tears when I see the kids stand and belt out the songs in our ml. This year, the ml kids also recited a short poem on St Martin.
