I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, Marie. I bet he was so proud of the life you have built and your beautiful children. It must have been very special to see the shooting stars. I'm thinking about you and sending hugs across the ocean.
Thank you everyone for your kind words. It has been such a tough few weeks. I am finally back on the way home. I am on the plane as I type. I can't wait to see the children and miss my family so much. The au pair said they have been very good and speaking loads of French. Of course, as I'm not home they're getting loads of one on one with the au pair. My in-laws visited while I was away and said the au pair is lovely. I'm very happy it worked out well with her. I look forward to returning to London and getting back to a normal routine. I will hopefully have some positive language updates soon.
Marie, based on my own experience so far--six weeks since my mother passed away--I've found it difficult to resume the same kind of fast-paced routine as I was pursuing before. Of course, I have to continue living my life, but I know now, too, that I need to slow down and give myself more quiet, personal time. So don't push yourself too hard. Be kind to yourself.

Thanks Raquel and thanks for the advice Adam Beck . I agree with you. I need to make some more time for myself. Also, make sure to enjoy all the simple beautiful moments of life and simple pleasures. Life is different after a parent passes and I'm not sure it ever gets back to normal. However, I'm looking forward to enjoying the simple things.
I just got contacted by the breeder we have been in touch with and a puppy is available! We have been waiting almost 6 months for a certain type and now is the time. She is 5 weeks old and if all goes well, she will be ours in 3 weeks! We are a family of dog lovers or shall I say pet lovers (at least me and the kids! lol). My husband seems to only love dogs. We have been waiting to get a dog for years! In fact, before my daughter was born we were planning to get a dog, until I realised I was pregnant and decided to put the dog on hold. Now we are ready and very excited!
On another note, French is going well. I hear both kids speaking French to the au pair. My son is speaking more and more French so this makes me happy. I haven't done any planning for the languages and think I will just leave it to the au pair for the next few weeks as I have to catch up on my own course work and day to day activities.
What's on your mind right now? Just type and hit "Enter" to share it here!
Angela: So sorry for your loss. She was a great woman. I hope you feel a bit better. Kisses from Spain.

Mayken: We visited a Loire Valley château yesterday. Our daughter got a kids' activity booklet and we parents got the regular tour booklet in French. She asked for one in German (our ml). When I later asked her why, she said "Because I'm a German-speaker!"

Nellie: Haha love it Mayken! The best thing is - she is right!

Mayken: My daughter's ml homework for this week included baking a cake - there's a cake in the story they read, and after each chapter there are questions and tasks, and the current chapter has the step-by-step recipe. She's to bring the cake to school too.

Amy: What a nice original homework! Makes such a change from standard homework, and I wouldn't be surprised if kids remember more from it! I like your bilingual school Mayken! Lucky little girl, and lucky Mummy!

Mayken: ml cake homework update: About half the class brought cake (8 out of 15), not all of them were the cake from the book recipe, but my daughter's was the most popular. (Maybe because we added food colouring and topped it with chocolate icing and smarties?)

Adam Beck: Cake is definitely my favorite kind of homework!

Jana: One of the best parts of having kids in bilingual school was getting Mother's Day cards in two languages! (With less-than-perfect spelling in both!) Ha!

Amy: (Twice) Lucky you Jana! So nice to read exciting pieces of news like yours!

Mayken: I still have that to look forward to, Jana! Mother's Day in our ML country is two weeks later, and the ml teacher goes along with that date. (It was last Sunday in our ml country.)

Flir: Adam, uh oh. Time waits for no one. I'm very sorry to hear that. Stay strong man, your kids are looking up to you to give them as much as your parents gave you once. Best wishes.
