Here's one way I've described the challenge of raising bilingual kids at my blog...
Half the battle of raising a bilingual child is making the time and opportunity to provide exposure in the minority language. The other half is making the most of that time and opportunity by maximizing the child’s engagement. In my experience, the most effective way to achieve this is by matching the child’s madness for play.
Our sixth challenge is very simple. First, to get in the right spirit for this challenge, see these posts at Bilingual Monkeys...
2. Do your own playful and quirky activity, then share it with us. What exactly did you do? How did it go?
Kids love it when their parents act silly, and this not only serves to create a tighter parent-child bond, such silliness can be a highly effective means of promoting the minority language. So have at it, fellow keepers! Be playful! Be quirky! Then come back here with a full report on your fun times together!

We do special time with each one of the kids. At that time (normally 10-15 minutes) he chooses what we would play and I have to play it. Most of the time it has something to do with hiding, running around, tickling, but other times it's just hugging and talking. During those moments it is me and him. No other distractions, no telephone, no e-mail, facebook, house chores...nothing but 100% attention and minority language. We plan these dates about once or twice a week.
