It would be great to exchange resources with other families with German as minority language.
Here is what we have:
age-appropriate TV shows:
- Die kleine Prinzessin (Little Princess)
- Meine Freundin Conni
- Sam der Feuerwehrmann (Sam the fireman)
CDs:
Meine Freundin Conni
various children's songs, and in particular
Rolf Zuckowski (I grew up with his songs!)
Books:
(definitely incomplete list)
Meine Freundin Conni, different formats (Pixi, Lesemaus)
Pippi Langstrumpf
several Ellermann-Vorlesebücher, including the 3-, 5-, 8-Minutengeschichten (2 books)
Jan und Julia (my old books!)
- Petzi (again, my old books!)
Wieso-Weshalb-Warum Junior (non fiction books from Ravensburger)
Wieso-Weshalb-Warum regular size books
Other:
Tiptoi from Ravensburger, a talking pen for special books and games (exists also for other languages), recommended for ages 4 and up, depending on the book/game
For finding new books/shows/CDs, I rely on one friend in Germany who has a daughter a few years older than mine, and I check out books in German bookstores on the rare occasions when I'm there. The problem is that you can't browse online bookstores the way you can real ones. Unless you already know the author/character/series, it's not easy to choose online. (The "look inside" features are very limited.) So it'd be great to have other families to exchange book tips with, or maybe someone knows a blog reviewing German-language children books?
This got somewhat longer than I intended. Hope you've read this far. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
