My son is now 5 soon to be 6 in a few months and I see a strong change in him in terms of growth. He is starting ML school and I notice he is blossoming to become much more outgoing, talkative, energetic. He is making new friends, wanting to be "first" in many things. I realise now, I need to change my tactics and routines in terms of how I teach him ml, too. So, my question is how do I start? It was already very hard when he was younger and now it's getting even harder.
Just to give some background: He fully understands and asks what it means when he comes across new ml words. He sometimes gets what I explain, sometimes doesn't. He talks to me in basic ml. When I ask him to explain to me a movie or a story, though, he struggles with ml. (He never refuses ml though!) He forgets words, mostly adjectives. So he starts with ml but then turns it into ML because it is easier. I then tell him "I couldn't understand, can you please explain it to me again" in ml, he then says "I tried mommy" and goes away. I read to him every day in ml and do a short recap in ml by asking him some questions, he does that very well. I try to do some activity books with him once or twice a week. We are all traveling to ml country in a week and my husband is trying to learn ml. He is interested in letters both ml and ML and I started introducing him some letters. I tried to video tape him when he is speaking ml. I notice he is then using very short sentences. Mostly, the main subject and the verb and not very narrative. He thinks very hard before he talks as he does not want to make a mistake (he is a perfectionist) which is why it is quite slow also but no mistakes. Good pronunciation, no mistakes, but very slow, short and basic.
